About Spijbelaar

Spijbelaar is a start-up band that, consisting of six members. The band produces pop songs in the direction of an alternative style similar to the Dutch band Doe Maar, but also with touches of hip hop and indie rock.

With their slogan "Niet in de klas, maar wel bij de les", the songs of the band are about the pressure on students of the current society. Spijbelaar wants to focus on young people of secondary school age, which fits the message they want to convey.

Brand a band

Brand a band is a first-year project of Fontys with the goal of creating a new identity with branding for a start-up band. The band, which started at the Fontys Rockacademie in Tilburg would like to have a professional appearance on smaller festivals and theater shows.

Deliverables

The project has resulted in the following deliverables:

Stylescape

The stylescape was the inital deliverable for the project, designed with own insights and ideas.
A final version was made in close collaboration with the band, which is the foundation for the development of the brand guide.

Brand guide

The brand guide covers all aspects related to the logo and its variations, the color palettes used and the typography. It also outlines clear do's and dont's.

Album cover

With the upload of media to streaming platforms in mind, the developed branding was applied across various assets, such as album covers for YouTube and Spotify. The album cover shown here is an example of this. Tying into the high school theme, the album, titled "Klassenfoto" as an example, features three picture frames, each containing a class photo.

CD cover

Following the album cover, the CD cover is an example of how the cover would look like on products and merchandise.
